Because there are too many details for a topic.
The mission is Bad Slash, something I haven't really written before, so someone familiar with it would be a blessing. Also, I would ideally like to find two betas, one who's familiar with the fandom and one who isn't. :)
Fandom: Persona 3
Rating: M? The original fic is rather graphic; I've been as circumspect in my writing as I can, but there are certain things that can't quite be avoided.
Wordcount: ~6.5k right now, may be cut down depending.
My email ought be linked to my name, and if not you can find it via the wiki -- I don't care to set it up here for spambots etc. Any questions and so on, let me know.
Please and thank you, lovely fellow Boarders~

I've beat Persona 3 FES, but I've yet to play P3 Portable, so I'm not sure about the alternate social links for the Female Main Character. Eh, it's a Bad Slash mission though, so unless they're pairing FeMCxFuuka or something I can probably still adequately provide.

I think I'm good for the old SPaG for the moment. Permission Request by

The Agents are Cassie (pyromaniac Chinese human female with a soft spot for most things animal, a love of Toshiro Hitsugaya, and a hatred of bad spelling and grammar) and Donnie (still-sane human male, for now that is, with a fondness for steampunk, flying, chocolate, an ability to keep his partner in check during her more homicidal moments, and a thorough dislike of OOC-ness).
The story is the one that ObscurumEterna recently linked to: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6400977/2/The_Other_Substitute_Soul_Reaper
Sample of writing: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5266772/1/PPC_Bleach_Division (Most relevant to the mission)
Please note that this story was written BEFORE I knew about the existence of the boards... and please don't shoot me ^^;;; -

Sorry you've been waiting so long for a reply, but I haven't had time to come to the Board much lately, and it looks like the other PGs are in the same boat.
At a glance, your writing sample looks very good - no glaring technical errors and an easy-to-read style. It's a bit fast-paced, but that's a personal choice, however I'll point out that a bad title isn't a killing offense, even if it contains a typo.
The descriptions you've given for your agents here in your request are very, very short, and don't tell me anything about what fandoms they work in or how long they've been in the PPC, but are remarkably thorough nonetheless, and between that and your sample itself, I've got a pretty good idea of how you plan to write them, and they look good - nothing (too) insane, nice contrast, good interactions.
However, you may not know that Cassie Young is one of our until-recently-regular Boarders, and has written a lot of missions with her Agent Cassie; while this itself isn't a reason to change your agent's name, beware that it could become very, very confusing, both for your characters and Boarders. In your place, I'd rename that agent or give her a nickname that she can be referred to most of the time.
In any case, everything looks good, so Permission Granted :) Go forth and write!
(As a non-Permission-related note, PPC missions on FF.N tend to be taken down as soon as someone notices, as, strictly speaking, they do violte FF.N's TOS. You may want to find somewhere else to post.) -

We did have a brief chat about the name issue a while back, and I had no problems with it as long as there was some way to distinguish between the two Agent Cassies. We've had other instances of several Agents with the same name, after all.
Also, I'm not a regular any more? When did this happen? ;_; -

Well, that was just me a bit ticked off after -reading- the rest of the fic... *sheepish grin*
We shall work something out, I imagine. My Agent ends up being referred to as "Cass", or with luck in future missions, "Cat", so we should be okay. I hope. If not, she's the Chinese agent around here ^_^
Ugh, stupid ff.net. It's lucky I'm relatively under the radar, but you do have a good point. I'll look into it when law school stops stomping on me.
Just a question, do I have to ask permission for future missions with this pair? And if I want to continue in a different fandom (with one different agent), do I have to ask permission for that?
Thanks! :)
Kassy -

You don't have to ask for Permission again, no - not now that I've given it to you. You're free to do as you please. People need to request again when they've been turned down the first time, and asked to reapply because their agents, writing, or some other aspect of their request failed to meet our standards, but once you have it, you have it - you can change agents and departments and fandoms as much as you please. It should all be in the Permission article. :)
Personally, I'd suggest using livejournal - it's clean and easy and you don't have to fuss with inconsistant servers. "Cat" would work as a nickname - I don't think anyone else uses it; you might want to check.

I'm new here, just discovered the place earlier today. Or yesterday rather. Should probably be asleep right now, but who sleeps at night these days? That's why the powers that be invented afternoons. I'm a young budding author, fanfic writer, and college student. I'm a big anime fan, but sadly I've yet to find the time to read anything new. So yeah, I'm here to kill time and eventually write some stuff for PPC.
Like: Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh (all 3 animes), Naruto, Bleach, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, Harry Potter, Soul Eater, D.Gray Man, other stuff I'm too tired and stressed to remember. My favorite food is sushi, as complicated as possible. And my favorite desert is...who am I kidding, I love all desert. (is overweight)
Dislike: Math, idiots, having to wait a few months for all of the good video games to reach America, Mary Sues, the fact that Suefics seem to have tons of reviews despite the fact that they're bad enough to make me physically ill! No accounting for taste I suppose...
I could write more about myself but I've never been one for personal descriptions, and I'm tired. I'm waiting for the day where they invent caffeine that can be absorbed into your blood through your skin. Coffee patches must be made!! -

Maybe Narnia. I'd love to see the Pevensie kids' faces when they met Mudge.
Just, y'know, not written the way "Martin's First Time" did it; one solitary line in which Skipper mentions his "cousin Mudge" knowing a unicorn, and Martin doesn't react at all even though unicorns don't exist in Mossflower. When I first saw that I hadn't met anyone who knew the Spellsinger books, and I wasn't sure if I should be pleased that someone else knew them or stunned at the clumsy writing. -

Who would prefer that the pot, squick, cynicism, sexual depravity, and general aura of grubbiness stay out of my Narnia?
I'm sure Spellsinger could cross beautifully with many things, but I would really rather it stay out of my pretty, idealistic, loving-God-filled, innocent, childhood-related and yet still deeply fulfilling Narnia and everything that it symbolizes.
/personal sensitivity about that fandom (and this is directed at a variety of ideas and fics, not just this particular suggestion) -
Narnia deals with some very serious topics, though by
on 2010-10-24 02:47:00 UTC
Link to this
Let's see... Addiction, betrayal, quasi-cannibalism, mind control, the death of innocents, violent battles, (attempted) suicide, murder, and the end of the world.
The difference isn't what the topic is; it's that Narnia is always an idealistic setting, rather than a cynical one. You can do very dark things in a world like that without breaking the tone of the story if you keep in mind that the good guys will either win or go down fighting, the bad guys will either lose or not find satisfaction in victory, and in the end it'll be clear that it's always possible to do the right thing. -

And that these things, the dark stuff, it isn't okay, or necessary, or merely a part of life, or a lesser evil. It's wrong, and it's everything that we all are fighting against, and good triumphs in the end, and the repentant are welcomed home. And the end of the world is, in fact, a welcome home.
And cynicism, and the acceptance of nastiness, and concepts like inevitable sin and necessary evil, and black versus gray, and lust and greed and foulness - they do not belong in Narnia.
I'm sorry, I realize I'm getting a little bit over-passionate about this, but to me Narnia represents both my childhood and my faith, and those are two areas I do not want cynicism. -
I dunno ... by
on 2010-10-24 11:17:00 UTC

The Pevensie kids probably wouldn't do well in the Spellsingerverse (I wish Foster had bothered to give the whole Spellsinger world a name, it'd be a lot less cumbersome) but maybe Jon-Tom'd be pleased to see Narnia, particularly Jon-Tom during the first couple of books. It's probably a lot closer to his idea of a fairytale world than Spellsinger is.
I won't write this if it'd upset you, don't worry. It's just kind of fun to wonder. -

Then I'd be interested. But can you forgive me if I assumed you'd go the cynicism-and-obscenity route, all things considered?

Hehehehe, I understand perfectly ^_^ by
on 2010-10-24 22:00:00 UTC

Considering my track record, it's a valid fear. I don't think I will write it, it's a long time since I've read Narnia and I have a lot of other stuff to do. Would be quite fun to see Mudge actually speechless at the sight of Aslan, though - I don't think he'd do the whole fall-to-knees-and-pledge-eternal-loyalty routine, and he'd pretend to be cynical about it later, but I reckon he'd secretly be impressed.
Reminds me, I might actually write that interlude where S&S end up in the Spellsinger world at some point. Wonder what the penalty for an agent sleeping with a canon character and not neuralysing them would be ... -

It can't help but imagine Mudge being cynical, and Aslan showing up behind him and saying, in this very benevolent, amused voice, "Really?" And Mudge stammering while everyone else chuckled.
And that'd be really cool (and I'd be flattered, if the idea started at the meme). And probably sent to spork badfic involving said character, and letting the agent in question handle the explanations. -

Never seen any Spellsinger badfic, oddly enough. Unless you count the one-line mention of Mudge in "Martin's First Time". (I'm not sure whether to write a mission for that one, since I'd basically be rehashing the MSTing. I'm amused by the idea of the agents watching the bit where Skipper "dropped his body", though.) Not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed at the lack of Spellsinger fic; on one hand, it's hard to find anyone who's heard of it, but on the other, we don't have to see what the badficcers could do to it.

Basic premise: what if the reason for Dr. Jekyll's transformations was not tainted chemicals, but rather misplaced HP-verse potions ingredients? Naturally the Ministry for Magic would have to be involved in tracking them down and covering up the mess, which would be an interesting story; and then what? I never got that far.
This plotbunny free to a good home, if anyone wants it. Much as I'd like to, I'll probably never actually write it.

"Mission" is often used as a catch-all for all PPC stories, whether they actually involve a badfic or not. So, "mission" here is interpreted to mean anything that adds to the PPC canon, which does need Permission.

I can't really believe that Organization XIII...have quite a fanclub, you know. Although I would expect that it wouldn't get as much attention from the fangirls if there were more females in the organization (For example, I get the feeling that it wouldn't get fangirl attention if the organization had, say, more females than males). -

Couldn't resist the Lux bit. Wonder if there's a penalty for agents sleeping with canon characters, and whether it's lesser if the character in question knows who the PPC are. (The G-verse doesn't have much in the way of a Fourth Wall, and Murdoc's in direct contact with Hell, so we figured it's not unreasonable that at least he would have known throughout most of the canon and the other band members would have picked it up from him.) -

OT: Free Good Profic by
on 2010-10-24 22:14:00 UTC
Link to this
I just thought that I'd leave some links to some of my favorite profic that's legally available for free online.
Mountains of Morning by Lois McMaster Bujold.
This is a short story. It won a Hugo Award, and is therefore available for free. It's part of Bujold's excellent Vorkosigan Saga. This particular story is mystery/science fiction and very good.
A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman
The link is to the Wikipedia page; you can download the PDF from there. This is--I am not making this up--Sherlock Holmes/Cthulu fanfiction. Another short story. It also won a Hugo Award.
The Big Meow by Diane Duane
Unfortunately incomplete, but you can read seven chapters for free. It's about time-traveling cat wizards. It's part of Duane's Feline Wizards series, but you don't need to have read the others to understand it.
Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
I don't love this quite as much as the others, but it's the rough draft of the entire novel for free--and it is quite good--so I had to post it. It's a fantasy novel.
So, who else knows of (legally) free, good, profic? -

Read these stories in the night. Alone in your room. If you have a vivid imagination, you will lose sleep.
Okay, first link.
Classic Stories on Scary For Kids
The stories in this section are: 'Monkey's Paw' by W.W. Jacobs, 'Three Skeleton Key' by George G. Toudouze, 'The Red Room' by H.G. Wells, 'The Tell-Tale Heart' by Edgar Allan Poe, 'Tower Room' by E.F. Benson, 'Black Coat' by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu, 'Windigo' (seems to have gone missing), 'Who Goes There' by John W. Campbell (you can also listen to the audio version), 'Fungus' or 'Voice in the Night' by William Hope Hodgson, 'Pest Control Ants', 'Man Overboard', 'Worm Removal', 'Psychic Vampire', 'Red Hand' by Arthur Machen, and 'Water Tank' by William Hope Hodgson.
In case you were wondering, my personal favorite so far (I haven't read all the stories yet) is 'Worm Removal'. Probably because I can't stand the things. Seriously, I'm nearly phobic about them. Heh, go figure. The one in the story has a mouth that ends up being... what? Twenty feet across? Yeesh!
Second link.
Short Stories on Scary For Kids
The stories in this section are: 'The Lottery' by Shirley Jackson, 'Caterpillar' by E.F. Benson, 'Willows' by Algernon Blackwood, 'Damned' by Ambrose Bierce, 'Body Snatcher' by Robert Louis Stevenson, 'August' by W.F. Harvey, 'Empty House' by Algernon Blackwood, 'Five Fingers' by W.F. Harvey, 'Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, 'For the Blood Is the Life' by F. Marion Crawford (called 'Blood Life' on the site), 'The Boarded Window' by Ambrose Bierce, 'Dark Shadow' by Tom Hood, 'The Dead One' by F. Marion Crawford, 'Yellow Sign' by Robert Chambers, and 'Country of the Blind' by H.G. Wells.
And finally, third link.
Sample Stories by Jan Bee Landman
This is a site I've been meaning to check out. It houses short stories by Jan Landman in the categories of mainstream fiction, historical fiction, love stories, horror and science fiction.

I picked an ampersand because the SOD was described as taking on a lot of mission that were the 'miscellaneous of the miscellaney' and it seemed appropriate. Different reasons. by
on 2010-10-27 04:45:00 UTC
Link to this
First of all, some departments had no flash patch images; that was why I started making images. Silverwind I think has been putting the "cloth" texture on them so that they all have a consistent style.
We had everything from realistic-looking stuff to hastily done clip art...
Perhaps more of an "iron-on patch" texture would look better? Silverwind--how long does it take you to change the texture? Maybe a range of possible effects to pick from, if we want a consistent "look" for our flash patch images. -
In defense of the clipart... by
on 2010-10-27 06:58:00 UTC
Link to this
If I'd tried to do anything more complex, I never would've gotten as many done as I did, and even more departments would be sans flash patch. Also, some of them are actually heavily modified and took quite a bit of time. {; P
That said, while I was initially resistant to the idea of replacing everything on the purely selfish grounds of not wanting to see all the ones I made blithely replaced, the argument of consistency is a good one. A more or less consistent style on the wiki is something I am for, and I always was behind the effort to confirm flash patches for at least the best-known departments, so I say go ahead.
However, I do have one question. Have you remembered to place all your images in the appropriate category?

It depends on the complexity of the patch. Most will take no more than a half hour to remap. Lucky I am a pack-rat when it comes to project files and have most if not all base pictures, layers, and colors I used to make the patches in there respective file. My only requirement is that I need a 500X500 pixel example of the preferred texture, in medium gray if possible.
-
Hmm... by

Maybe you could post example textures. I do like consistency, but remember these flash patches do have to contain a SEP field, which can be miniaturized but possibly not so much as to be simply printed on clothing... Honestly, I've always just assumed that admins had the power to look into locked posts and such. I mean, sure, I've never seen it happen before, but the suspicion that it could has always been there. Doesn't change that fact that it's pretty weird, unexpected, and quite worrying though.
-
That's not what bothers me. by
on 2010-10-26 06:16:00 UTC
Link to this
Of course the admins would have a way to get into entries-- that rather makes sense. Even the staff and abuse teams I could see.
The part that's creepy and frightening is where they're blatantly, almost deliberately unprofessional about it. It's not just keeping an eye on things, they're actually vandalising and abusing on their own, and through sockpuppets. And nobody in the LJ hierarchy calls them out, which is also pretty frightening. Especially for people who've been using that site for years and have about half their life (and too much stuff to just copy-paste) up on it. -

And what's more, that's with the understanding that LJ is going to at least make an attempt to be fair-- that they won't ban out of spite and pettiness. Especially since people pay for accounts there. Quite a few of the incidents mentioned in that post happened to paid accounts-- and for LJ to be acting like that is stupid, dangerous, and also, as mentioned in one of the bullets, legally dubious.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you've been around the Board all that much; I've seen you in the chat once or twice, but not around much more than that. Part of the reason we ask people to wait a few months before asking for Permission is so that we can get to know you. If you've only been posting for less than a month, and infrequently at that, I'd have to ask you to hold off for a little while longer.
That said, your writing sample was pretty good-- no spelling or grammar errors I could see, and your agents seem rather concrete. I'd just like to hold off on Permission until you've been around a while longer. -

I found four more Star Trek badfics. I'll, um, post links to them here. I hope you'll find it your hearts not to electrocute me through my keyboard. Now, while some of these fics are above PG-13, the excerpts I post are not, I promise you. They are, however, wildly, disastrously NSFB. Don't say I didn't warn you. (In case you're wondering where I keep finding these things, I managed to track down an older version of the GAFF board.) So, without further ado, here are the stories.
Burning Thistles Among Thorns, a 'Star Trek: Voyager' fanfic by Deborah L. Wells
Rated R
Sadly(?), this story has been removed from trekiverse.org, so I'm forced to link you to this forum site. Just scroll down to post #17, and you'll find links to every chapter. (Word to the wise: do NOT scroll down.) Janeway and crew are enslaved, or somesuch. Doesn't really matter. A thesaurus must have exploded over this thing. That GAFF reviewer was right. This prose is not purple, this prose is not even urple, this prose is friggin' ultra-violet! Excerpt?
"The scorching ripples of the day's sea of humid false-fire spilling its almost invisible-to-the-eye imperfections, wafting up from the ground like a mirage and transporting a cargo of transparent smoke. Which then rose to life in liquid waves to eventually dart across the arid landscape and disappear into nothingness. As simultaneously, the too thin membranes of fragile vessels composed only of flesh and blood, all quite literally began to melt from the inside out. Stemming from the ever constant and intense exposure, as they continued to face the elevated stage and daisinabsolute silence under the open and spread umbrella of a devil's breath. Otherwise masquerading as the sun, which raged impressively in foreground perspective to them, strung high overhead now, and framing closely behind the shoulders of Toran in silhouette. The optical eclipse sphere illusion playing along his form with bursts of pinpoint spikes, flashing rays of illumination. In some ways, the effect it produced was very much in keeping with the historical painting renditions of the Madonna and Child from Earth's Christianity, bringing to mind the spectral visage of shining auras of lightening-encrusted prism shards, and golden crowns of omnipotent glory."
Uh, yeah, what she said.
Pregnant Lady and a Lift, a 'Star Trek: Voyager' fanfic by Raven Deacastra
Rated R (for a good reason)
A very short fic where, basically, Chakotay and a pregnant Janeway have painful, mechanical sex in a turbo-lift. Also, sharp nails. And ouch, that's gotta hurt. Excerpt?
"'Wait a minute Tom you told Chakotay you wanted to work this weekend.' 'I know I did It's just well she's pregnant again and taking it out on me again.' I really do not like her mood swings.' 'I know how you feel it's not easy having a pregnant wife who already had a temper and it just get's...' 'Hold it right there mister! Unless you plan on sleeping with Neelix for the rest of this trip home you better start explaining that last statement.' 'I well... ItÕs just that... You know I was just.. Kathryn I love you.' 'Good save commander.Ó Tom remarks with a Cheshire grin just glad he is not the only husband on board in the proverbial doghouse. 'I think this is my stop. Good luck commander.' as he leaves the lift he say's under his breath 'you're gonna need it.' Back in the lift Chakotay is looking at his wife that could only be described as pleading and a little trepidation.Praying he has not just sentenced himself to the couch for the next week he reaches for her planning on changing the subject to a more physical conversation." -

When confronted with such levels of stupefying, over-the-top nonsense (and let's be honest, this is about as over-the-top as you can get), our brains will do anything to preserve themselves. Thus, instead of being reduced to gibbering, twitching wrecks, we laugh. If we didn't, our heads would explode. And believe me, it's hell trying to get stains like that out of a carpet.

Keep Earth Human, a 'Star Trek: TOS' fanfic by Judy Gale
Rated... T, I suppose
Okay, let me get this straight. Judy Sue, a human, is living on Vulcan, married to Spock and pregnant with twins. She's home alone when, all of a sudden, three monumentally stupid villains break into her house to abort her babies, brainwash her into hating Vulcans, and transport her back to earth. Because, you know, her babies would be taints upon the human race. Because they'd be half-Vulcan. Right? Right. The villains are stupid because (among other things) they attempt to carry out the brainwashing and the aborting in the woman's own house, with her relatives less than a minute's walking distance away. And did you know cassette tapes are still commonly used in Spock's time? Things just get progressively dumber from there.
Star Trek TOS: Carol, a fanfic by Syl
Rated T
No excerpts for this one. It'd be pointless. A sicky gooey sticky sappy romance story that, in three-thousand eight-hundred and six words, gives us thirteen instances of the phrase 'I love you' and a grand total of forty-six instances of the word 'love' in various forms (love, lover, loving etc.), all from James Kirk and Carol. Your Honor, I rest my case.
So, there you have it. Four Star Trek abominations, and my own death warrant, which I will now proceed to sign.

Laughter, by Nemesiz '99 (MSTed version)
Count yourselves lucky that I was unable to find the story 'Rest My Child' anywhere. Wasn't for lack of trying, though. As a belated Halloween gift, I will now proceed to blast you with all the fragments of it that I found on GAFF. Moohahahahaaaaa...
"Chakotay walked over to her and stood right infront of her before kneeling down on his knees. He then gently took both her hands on her lap and lifts up to his lip as he kissed both of them. Lifting up his head to look at her face, he saw tears welled up in her eyes 'Kathryn...'"
"He was in the kitchen preparing supper for both of them when Kathryn suddenly for no reason walked up the staircase. He had tried calling her a few times asking where she was going but each time she would ignore him."
"As the doctor waited for the affect of his patient unconscious, he placed a gentle hand on Chakotay. 'Commander, her condition had worsen than I thought. She has suppose to recover from the loss of the child but it only had gotten worst. What has happen to her?'"
"The young boy watched as the woman he thought was his mother leaves, being forced to leave him. His eyes burned with fire and his whole body suddenly exploded, leaving the room on fire, calling for his mother 'MUMMY!'"
"Chakotay couldn't hold back the sob that he was holding before her choke out the sob"
"When she and Chakotay first move in here to stay, the owner had warned them that they were not allowed to go into this room. When Chakotay asked her why, the old woman told him it was better that they do not know, and so they never know about this mystery room."
"'Kathryn! Kathryn!' he tried to wake Kathryn but each attempt failed when he realized that there was blood flowing out from her head."
"Kathryn's back was facing him as Chakotay walked into the living room, his wore an expression of sadness"
"Kathryn was on her knees, flowers in her hand as she stare sadly at the tombstone. She kisses the flower that she was holding and gently placed it near the tombstone. 'Rest in peace little one. May you find the peace that you never find'"
No worries, Star Trek fans. I will keep searching for the story that features all these wonderful lines. If I ever manage to dig it up, I'll put it up on Unclaimed at once. The other four are already there, by the way. *more evil* -

the only one of these I read from beginning to end was 'Carol'. I had to, to count the 'loves'. I skipped most of the sex scene in 'Pregnant Lady and a Lift', because it squicked me up, up and away, and I skipped over the ending to 'Keep Earth Human'. The stupid became too much. As for 'Thistles'... No. Just no.
Oh, and don't worry. By the time I was done with these, I'd gulped down so much Bloffee that my room was spinning, and there were little stickmen dancing on my bed.
I take it you'd like me to put these... things... up on Unclaimed?

I just had a brain-wave. That UV fic reminds me irresistibly of the Eye of Argon. Sure, it's not quite as bad as the "lithe opaque nose", but still.
Dammit, that's the second piece of literature this UV thing's reminded me of.

This is the kind of stuff that makes a person's eyes (and brain) glaze over. You've got to hand it to Deborah Wells, though. She was able to maintain the same level of UV radiation for twenty-four whole chapters. I'm not kidding. Every paragraph in every chapter is of the same caliber. Aaaaggghhh!
Even more unsettling is the fact that this story was, by an overwhelming majority, proclaimed the best Janeway/Chakotay story for 1998. Meaning that the damn thing won an ASC award. Reviews were invariably gushing. It's true! Here, look at this.
Wrap your mind around that, if you can. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go hide under the bed. -

I discovered the PPC a while back, but never got around to actually getting involved until now. I'm here because I love fanfic, love the PPC stories and hope to contribute to them myself at some point.
I am a big anime/sci-fi fan...
Here are a few of my fave series/games/etc: Doctor Who, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Haruhi Suzumiya, Death Note, Portal (if you couldn't guess from the name), Firefly, Lexx, Star Trek (all of them), Star Wars, Halo, Silent Hill, The SCP Foundation... hell it'd be quicker to list the things I've seen and NOT liked ^_^ (most of which would be romance-focused series, I'm not big on those)

Newbie reporting (after years of absence!) by

Well, this is interesting. :)
It's been several years since my last run-in with the PPC, and appear to have missed out on a great many developments. It should be interesting to get back in the snarker's saddle, since it's been equally long since my last MST.
As far as interests go : I am rather well-read as far as fiction goes, with a great many obscure (and ancient) science-fiction and fantasy series accounted for. Tolkien has historically been my main haunt as far as fanfiction is concerned, with a foray into Potterverse.
I don't have major dislikes in fanfiction; I generally don't read romance though, as it doesn't interest me too much. I am fond of Assimilation Plot stories, though.
(If you hadn't guessed, I am also a Tv-Tropes addict.)
Good to see you all. :) -

I was absent from the PPC for awhile too and was greeted with much enthusiasm, so I am passing it on. Welcome back!I am happy to meet you and am wondering what kind of obscure science fiction and fantasy stories you have read. I am always looking for new books to read. What are some of your favorites?

It's nice to see things haven't changed too much, though I have my personal gripes with some things that I'm sure will come up sooner or later. They always do. :P
Regarding Fantasy/Sci-Fi... I have this list, you see... A list of books I have access to in one form or another. It has grown somewhat over the years, to become rather, ahem, gigantic. I shall post it at a later time, so you may browse it (It has read items marked off) - Suffice to say, the list itself in pure text is nearly a megabyte. -

PPC Dwarf Fortress LP! by
on 2010-10-28 23:18:00 UTC
Link to this
That's right, the PPC is playing a succession game of Dwarf Fortress! Arranged on the IRC, this is still very much in the planning stage, but it's already underway with ObscurumAeterna playing the first year! We have high hopes for this fortress and we know it will stand the test of time and-
The fortress is named Armorstabbed.
Several people have already expressed interest on the IRC. They'll get the first turns, of course. But if you want to play, put your name down and we'll chalk you up on the list!
Here's the rules: Everyone plays one year. You have a week real-time. When you see "Spring has Arrived!", save the file and pass it on. Remember to take pictures and make comments on them as time goes by in the year. If you completely ruin the fortress, we'll move back to the last save and pass it on to the next person.
(Note: Many of the people involved so far have little prior experience of Dwarf Fortress. This is undoubtably more Fun.)
Here's the list of people who have expressed interest in playing so far, not necessarily in this order:
ObscurumAeterna
July
Dann
Nakkel
Tranum
Artell
If you did express interest on the IRC and are not on this list, come by and we'll see what we can do.
What is Dwarf Fortress?
Dwarf Fortress is a game where, as the name suggests, you control a fortress of dwarves, keeping them fed, happy, and safe from a lot of things that want your dwarves dead. It lends itself to a lot of insanity, which the infamous LP Boatmurdered can explain better than I can.

Few tips for you.
1) The mine being worked now was the first place I found any minerals, so I'd advise going a z-level or two deeper rather than expanding those shafts. Just don't go past the tenth level down, or you risk stumbling upon a cavern and any HFS that might be lurking inside.
2) Read up on farming techniques; you might have a food shortage on your hands. The farm plot is a small room in the southeast corner of the fort's first level.
3) Have Fun. :D -
