The full story can be found somewhat here - http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_lounge/783399.html. An idiot called Qabandi originally hacked it to point to a video about poverty (the ultimate in idiocy), and now he's just being a wanker, taunting them with passwords and "vulnerabilities" still existing.
So, yeah. Just thought everyone should know, because it's undeniably a resource for a number of us.
Discuss.

And I loved it!
More of the Moist/Adora relationship, another look into the civic institutions of A-M, And it even gave Slant and the Fools' Guild a bit of humanity.
(though if it really is an exploration of the tragic/philisophical elements of foolery or just a cynical attempt to justify the Guild's rote-learning cirriculum I don't know)
And is it just me, or did the Cabinet of Curiosity give anyone else a Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS feel to it, ala the Allspark?
Therefore, and on the news that Moist has admitted his past malfeances and in a way set himself free, I'm going to begin planning to write his Abridged Autobiography in Fanfic form.
Title: "The Leopard Changed it's Shorts" (compaint lodged by the Ankh Morpork League of Decency for use of the word 'Shorts')
(prologue occurs after coming back from Ador's funeral where he very classily dissoved into a blubbering mess 3/4 of the way through.
Contents include:
-Early Life
-Years as con
-Getting "Bes-Palargic'ed" into the civil service
- Adora (with appropiately sappy description of the beautific look that she only had when asleep or when cradling their son when she thought he wasn't looking.)
-Going un-crooked
-The Seige of Ankh (The League petitioned to have the chapter's pages glued shut for reference to Miss Malacariat discovering Moist and his fiance engaged in... "Hanky-Panky" on the PostMaster's Desk during a city emergency)
-His wedding (with notes on annoying offical guests and knowing how to placate angry soon-to-be father's-in-law when you have the honeymoon three months early)
-Fatherhood and raising a son with two middle names.
-His Patrician-ship
-His retirement back to the post office after 20 years.
-An epilogue written in the week between his wife's death and it finally going to print at the age of 86.
He died the next evening after suffering a blowout of the aorta on his last mail-circuit and had to go back to his own bed as a temporary zombie operating on full manual. Is giving up the ghost in ones' own bed too much to ask?
I hope others like the book, and can council me on how to proceed on this fic... eventually. -

This might be an odd question, but has anyone here played Killer 7? It's a pretty trippy fps game for the PS2 and Game cube that came out a few years ago. It's about a group of assassins with such a weird story that you might as well look it up on Wikipedia.
Anyways, the game was used in one of the best cross-over fics I've ever read. So here you go!

Hi.
As much as I loved the PPC and chatting and writing and reading, I'm afraid I'm leaving.
Some of it's due to lack of time and energy, but part of it's on how... well, mean the PPC can be when looked at without the MarySue hate. I kind of... I dunno, feel guilty? :/ Does that make sense? Feeling guilty for being nasty to a person's character because it happens to fit the type of character I hate?
Err... I can't unpublish the GoogleDoc so I would greatly appreciate it if the links were erased?
And... that's pretty much it.
It was fun.

Let's play a game: "It Could Be Worse". by
on 2008-09-13 22:15:00 UTC
Link to this
I was reading through the archives of Weepingcock on LJ and someone mentioned a thread at the GodAwful FanFiction Board called "It Could Be Worse", where people posted ideas for terrifyingly bad fanfic which (thankfully) hadn't been used yet.
I propose that we play a variation of this. We come up with ideas for godawful badfic premises/descriptions/OC names/Sue origin stories/pairings/whatever that we haven't seen. Others then either try to find a fic involving that concept, or write a short ficlet involving it. If they choose to write one, it could either be parody badfic, or an attempt to make the concept work.
Anyone want to play? -

A scary thought: OFU badfic. by
on 2008-09-14 23:24:00 UTC
Link to this
Plat, OA and I were having an ideas session for OFUTRC the other day, and somehow we got onto the subject of OFU badfic. Mostly encouraged by Plat, the first idea we came up with was, of all things, Misslash. Yep. Miss Cass/Miss Angel.
I think there is a section on Fanficland for OFUs. What makes the idea of OFU staffslash a little worrying is that pairings that would ordinarily have been separated by time and distance suddenly become plausible. Turin/Boromir, anyone? -
Miss Angel finds the idea of Misslash terrifying. by
on 2008-09-15 04:51:00 UTC

Oozaru Angel, on the other hand, came up with the name and finds it hilarious. Bwahaha. Anyone who writes it, badfic or no, gets a cookie.

Well, in private Miss Angel is fairly friendly and easily amused. She's incredibly sadistic and rather likes singing, occasionally making up her own little (terrible) ditties when she's in a good mood (see chapter 4, coming to an LJ near you soon). Miss Cass creeps her out sometimes. In front of the students, Miss Angel is a total bitch. Ninja drill sergeant. She's 17-going-on-18 years old.

Miss Cass is actually quite fond of her colleague, and avoids creeping her out as much as possible. (It's not always possible to avoid looking creepy if the light reflects off your glasses when you smile just right.) She's not quite as sadistic, but does derive much entertainment from students suffering, although she pretends to be all sweetness and light to them. She's at the young end of 20.

Caspian/OC. He's too good for Mary Sue. And Agent Eledhwen shall get angry.
More Emo!Caspian. With all the Emo!Caspian fics already out there, I think it's enough for me to slit my own wrists.
More Pregnant!Susan. That's honestly starting to get cliche.
LotR
The name Princess Sparklysmarklymuffinpoo. Even as a cutesy nickname.
The amazing one week walk from Imladris to Mordor. The whole "traveling distances take a very short time" thing is more for Narnia than Middle-earth.
OFUM and other OFUs
A student eviller than Lord Elrond. Not Happening.
A student with mithrilver eyes. (mithril/silver)
A student who manages to ensnare Legolas successfully
A not-so-evil OFU.
There's more...but gotta go... -
Actually, I rather like Pregnant!Susan fics by

I think they're cute, if repetative. If written well, of course; things well-written don't feel cliche even if they're all basically the same. Then again, I find Susan/Caspian adorable, so that rather influences my judgement.

The repetativeness gets to my head. And it's kind of...not expected. Susan is what, sixteen or so? (can't remember real age *feels stupid*) And although she's considered an adult in Narnia, I don't think she's one to shag anyone, even Caspian (I'm also a Casue fan, but that doesn't affect much of this) before marriage.
And maybe it's just me and the whole "teenage sexuality" thing. Me ol' science teacher had it drilled into my head. -

I'll be writing the circumstances of that recruitment soon, but for now, yes, he is here, he is attached to DoSAT as a pilot and mechanic type. I figured he could be useful, as lots of us work in sci-fi continua but not many of us can pilot spaceships by ourselves.
And also Joss Whedon is a horrible murderer and he needed to be rescued. I cite Project Phoenix as precedent :)
Don't worry, I don't have a clue about the continuum either; Pads had to hold my hand the entire way, as you no doubt gathered.

Greetings from a newcomer by

Greetings, folks. I honestly can't remember how I originally came to this site, but I've been lurking and enjoying myself reading the PPC stories for a while, and thought I'd emerge from hiding at last as a newcomer to this community, and a hopeful recruit into the PPC.
My background in fanfic lies primarily in the Baldur's Gate, Warhammer 40,000, and Supreme Commander settings-I have a thing for the darker and morally ambiguous settings, and have been dealing with the issue of Mary Sue for a while-the Baldur's Gate setting in particular virtually forces a good-aligned protagonist to be a Mary Sue to some degree, and I've enjoyed reading the stories here, getting ideas of what is and is not acceptable. I fully confess that my first attempts at fanfic writing were indeed Mary Sues, but I have since buried or rehabilitated them.
I also might as well declare my intent now to seek permission to join the PPC as a novice agent, given my background in Warhammer 40,000, with the intent to hunt down and smite, disentangle, and purge the Mary Sue, the crossover, and the badslash with extreme prejudice, starting with the Warhammer 40k fanfic sector. I'll probably post an official request for permission in the near future, but for now, this newcomer salutes you all and the laughs he's gotten out of the storie. -

Not sure why-I am a male writer. The only women about are xenos (filth, fit only for annihilation), Sisters of Battle (liable to turn you into a meat candle at the slightest provocation), Inquisitors (liable to turn you into a meat candle at the slightest provocation, but only after excruciating torture), adepts of the Adeptus Mechanicus (robo-girls aren't my thing), and female troopers in the Imperial Guard (fraternization within the ranks is discouraged).
Granted, anti-lustin lilies would be much more useful to a female writer in the 40k setting. -

The male of the two Agents I'm considering, tentatively named Nathanos, may be something of an exception-he's definitely well built, but he also has bionic augmentation due to injuries sustained before being referred to the Ordo Hydra, also known tentatively as the Warhammer 40,000 division (So named because for every head of the Ordo's target you destroy, three more arise). Probably at least an obvious bionic hand-maybe a full arm.
Current standard armament for him is a plasma pistol and a daemonhammer (extra-large hammer, blessed for the purpose of destroying daemons, which I believe Sues count as). However, given the scope of 40k, and thus 40k badfic, destruction of the non-canon elements may require additional firepower, which is why I'm considering leasing a Blackstone Fortress from Abaddon the Despoiler for planet-killing purposes. 40k won't miss a random planet. Or even a lot of random planets. -

Re: And I suppose normal Mary Sues won't stand a chance. by

Believe me, such weapons are necessary. WH40k takes place on a scale unlike most: it is entirely likely there will be not one Mary Sue, but an entire regiment of them, and removing non-canonical planets from the WH40k universe does demand planet-killing weapons, which are fortunately in abundance-any midsize starship (at least those of the Imperium of Man) has planet-killing weapons aboard, and the Imperial Inquisition has the authority to declare an order of Exterminatus, no questions asked-it's the reason I chose the Inquisition to represent the war against badfic spreading to 40k. Crossovers, you are warned.
However, while my specialization lies in Warhammer 40,000, I am also versed in several other continuums, and will happily undertake assignments against the following:
Star Trek
Star Wars
Harry Potter
The Inheritance Cycle (don't ask)
Baldur's Gate/Dungeons and Dragons in general
Exception: Lord of the Rings. Loved the movies, but it's been a long time since I've read the books. If I ever recieve a request to do a LotR assignment (i.e. heavier weapons than normal are needed), I would require assistance. -

My hitlist is already filling out nicely-I intend to hit Squad Broken, for one: the squickiest, most infamous WH40k "fanfic" ever to grace the general awareness of the 40k community. Really fairly tame compared to some things *coughcelebriancoughchochangcough* around here, but the 40k community normally prides itself on the general absence of slash, smutfic, etc.
Once the Ordo Hydra has finished setting up shop, however, WH40k-grade weapons will be made available to Agents upon request, assuming the flowers and senior agents do not shoot the idea down. I believe the Department of Geographical Aberrations in particular might appreciate having access to methods for erasing continents or entire planets in one strike. -

Among MANY other things-if it can conceivably be shot out of a gun or somehow used as a weapon, there's a decent chance it's in WH40k. Good example: the Shokk Attack Gun, invented by the Orks. Fires gretchin (read: goblins) through the Warp (read: hell) to appear inside the target. Said gretchin are also usually insane after their journey through the Warp.
For an honest summary, read this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Warhammer40000

Provided that you've been around. It's not so much the length of time as how much you've participated in the community - the Permission Givers want to have a sense of who you are and what you write before they give you the go-ahead to write within this world. Sometimes people hang around for months before asking permission, and sometimes they're still rejected. Rarely, though. Just hang around, become involved, be courteous and chances are, you'll get it.

All Sues, crossovers, and badslash are to be targeted. The Agents I'm considering are a junior Inquisitor and a veteran Sister of Battle, and the weapons will be whatever is available-probably a daemonhammer for the Inquisitor and an Eviscerator for the Sister.
I've been browsing fanfiction.net for suitable targets, but the 40k fanfic-verse seems pretty well behaved, to be honest-the setting is insane enough that the presence of a Sue tends to get lost in the clutter, and 40k fanfic has a surprising number of honestly good writers. Not to say I haven't found some targets, and will probably find enough to keep me busy for the duration of my stay, but 40k fanfic is nowhere near as bad as, say, LotR or Harry Potter fic.
Still, thanks for the warm welcome. -

I'll certainly give you an email for female Marines, and yes, it's because the enhancement program works with male hormones, but I probably won't be doing much Mary Sue assassination-this is 40k. Bending the laws of physics to accomodate the protagonist's latest feat is not only expected, it's canon. Gary Stu is canon, because pretty much everyone is Gary Stu to a greater or lesser degre. To destroy characters for that is to assault a time-honored tradition of the Black Library and 40k fanfic.
My hunts will likely focus on egregious fluff rape (such as female Space Marines, and at least one fic I once read where Necrons joined the Tau) and badslash (yes, there's some in 40k). -

Re: Ahhh by

I'm working on it, but the main charges are looking to be crossovers (some exceptions: 40k is insane enough that only badly written/out of character crossovers will be considered), bad slash, plot armour above and beyond the call of duty, and the biggest, most overreaching category of charges: fluff rape.
A small sample of fluff rape charges:
- The Void Dragon awakening (heck, the Void Dragon doing anything besides sleeping, period).
- Necrons talking under anything but very rare circumstances.
- Reverse-engineering Necron technology
- Human/Xenos love affairs
- Human/Xenos crossbreeds
- Female Astartes
- Evil Sororitas (Well, *more* evil Sororitas who haven't become generic Lost And The Damned)
- Chaos Marines redeeming themselves into the Emperor's service.
- The two missing primarchs. Period.
- Any primarchs returning
- Orks not talkin Orky. -

True. However, as a prospective recruit specializing in Warhammer 40,000, I feel obligated to offer the warning that as a rule the qualifies for the DAVD: it is an exceptionally violent setting where billions of people die as a result of rounding errors on tax returns, planet-killing weapons are a dime a dozen and used frequently, and chainsaws can be found in the form of just about any weapon. Chainsaw swords? Ubiquitous. Chainsaw axes? Check. Chainsaw glaives? Check. Chainsaw scalpels? Check. Chainsaw fists? Check, in every size from tank-busting chainfists that fit onto heavy power armour to chainfists the size of tanks mounted on Titans.
Other weapons this setting tends to produce include flamethrowers of every description, guns that fire pure pain, guns that strip away the target molecular layer by molecular layer, guns that send you straight to hell, guns that fire goblins through hell, minigun rocket launchers, guns that shoot thousands of shuriken, razor floss cannons... the list goes on. -

Lots of places to obtain chainaxes, but the best bet would be to take one from a Khorne Berzerker, but if an Agent wants to get one, I have to recommend extreme caution: Berzerkers are *extremely* bloodthirsty supersoldiers who happen to be axe crazy with a side order of fries, and most of them carry a semi-automatic armor-piercing rocket launcher pistol as a sidearm. The ones that don't are worse: they use that free hand for another chainaxe.

We regret to report that the local branch office of the Imperial Inquisition, Ordo Hydra, is currently under construction. Installation of such a sub-sector would require the approval of higher-ups in the PPC. However, it is tentatively proposed to be a subdivision of the DAVD.
When complete, 40k-grade armaments may or may not be made available upon request. The phrase "overkill" comes to mind at the suggestion of introducing 40k-grade armaments to other continuums. -

Have a P-90. I know nothing of your fandoms, but all are welcome here. Have you by chance visited the Wiki yet? Or read The Original Series (not be confused with Star Trek).
Beware of those offering links to Legendary Badfic. Even the Wiki summaries have been known to scar minds. If someone offers you links to Legendary Goodfic on the other hand, feel free to read.
Come in, join the fun and leave your sanity at the door. You will not need it here.Sinister laughter? What sinister laughter?. Don't worry; most of us don't bite...most of the time anyway. -

A snotty, arrogant, curves-in-all-the-right-places Potter Sue; nothing special, really. In the Pit, you can't swing a dead Kneazle without hitting at least seventeen of them.
Unless, of course, they happen to be a very uncanonical horse goddess, with a "lust curse" that turns every male within range into drooling, pawing animals.
If, like Teek, you've got an ex-Token Lecherous Jerk for a partner, and if his re-conditioning didn't go quite as well as one would hope... well, there could be some problems ahead.
Original fic, read and hated by our very own Neshomeh!

*tries to peer at hidden Agent* Er, she's not Bajoran, is she? (The Sueoine of Crelmos's native fic was half-Bajoran, half-Cardassian; this is canonically possible, but was only used as an excuse for angst. As such, all his tendencies are exaggerated around Bajoran or part-Bajoran females.)
You have, however, intrigued me- do you have any missions up for these Agents? -

And yes, it would. I would assume that Cardassians probably aren't very open about certain preferences in any case (probably because the other options don't result in offspring, and where would the Galaxy's finest race be then?), but seeing what Crelmos's original personality was like, it's going to be even worse. xD
Because yeah, there are homosexual Token Lecherous Jerks in fanfiction, but he sure isn't one of them. Being scientific, he might even view that as some sort of genetic dysfunction.

I've seen bits and pieces of all the Trek series except the newest one, which I've heard isn't worthwhile. I know basically who's who and what's what in the rest, though. {= )
My review isn't that long. I basically told her that I didn't like the tone of the story, explained why, and told her that a writer can't treat the readers like morons. I also told her that protagonists must be sympathetic or have some redeeming quality of humanity, or we have no reason to care about them. I used Dr. House as an example of a nasty character with redeeming qualities. The most scathing bit is this one:
"Siris, on the other hand, is overpowered, disrespectful, full of herself, condescending, and totally unsympathetic. The fact that an albino horse goddess with a ridiculous curse is extremely out of place in J.K. Rowling's world doesn't do her any favors. The fact that she makes the characters who belong there and Hogwarts itself all look bad is a death sentence as far as a reader's interest is concerned. None of the canon characters has any reason to like her. Why should we?"
I did give her props for halfway-decent mechanics, though.
~Neshomeh -
Mmm... by
on 2008-09-20 03:58:00 UTC

Yeah, a lot of people hate the newest one, which I've personally never seen.
House was a pretty good choice; yes, he's acerbic and annoying, but you still like him. A character shouldn't turn sarcasm into sheer arrogance.
Good points, though, and what you said is made all the more obvious by the fact that she blatantly orders you to be jealous of her breast size.
The Pit's demographic has enough self-esteem problems as it is, plzkthx. And I'm kind of, you know, happy with my body the way it is, and I'm not winning any swimsuit contests.
Plus, from the many threads on Pottersues that I've seen about such things, you are being astonishingly insensitive to the fact that breasts that big are actually painful.
Yeah, mechanics were pretty good. I've seen a lot worse. (Except for the "incandescent greeting..." ah, the wonders of find-and-replace spell check.) -

Very nice. Good choice for method of execution.
For the record, yes, larger cup sizes can be very irritating, and I've never met a girl with one who didn't complain about it. To begin with, it's hard to find shirts that fit right...
I've told you this before, but I love Crelmos. And the Cardassian-ification of Teek was awesome. -
Thanks. by
on 2008-09-19 22:33:00 UTC

Heh heh. The execution amuses me too; I was sitting at my desk, suddenly realizing, "Well, bugger; how do you kill a goddess?"
The first thing I thought of was actually the subtle knife (Æsahættr, the god-destroyer), but there would be severe canonical consequences if it was stolen, and also neither of my Agents had knowledge of it.
So I kept thinking about the death of gods, which led me to Ragnarok, which made me remember the Klingons.
I've seen entire threads on Pottersues ranting at the insensitivity of Suethors giving their creations massive busts, and how uncomfortable it really is. So I felt I was rather justified in striking back.
I'm still flattered by your vast love. Unfortunately, Crelmos does not love you back (er, which is probably a good thing- never mind).
Teek would beg to differ on the Cardassian-ification front. She's probably deeply scarred. (I tried not to make the neck-stroking thing too creepy, but...)

Here's some torture ideas!
1) If you don't do homework you are waken up in the middle of the night for a torture session in the gym (or that place with the pillars).
2) Sharpen a yardstick. Throw it at a student.
3) Shoot students for not turning in their homework.
4) Screw a student's thumb to the table for fun.
5) Hang students for fun.
6) If a student with long hair is playing with it, cut the hair, slam it on the desk or table, and yell, "Play with THAT instead!"
7) Throw staplers at students
8) Swing arms around to purposely smack students sitting in the first row.

Apparently if you clicked your clicky pen or twirled it around your fingers too often in my history teacher's sight he will bite off your fingers one by one.
There was another incident where he nailed a student's thumb to the desk with a hammer. (I'm more inclined to think sledgehammer)
He also wanted to string students up from the ceiling and then whip them with a cat o'nein tails or whatever that was. -

Brilliant chapter. I wondered when the Sues would turn up. Although now, as ever, questions are clamouring to be answered.
Surely there are Agents left who are good enough to tackle the invasions? What on earth are the DIA and DES doing? What's going to happen to Dassie? Are the other Agents going to be all right?
I know you're not going to answer these till the next chapter comes out, but I'm asking them anyway.

1) There is a very perfect character who you do not recgonize from the Canon.
2) There is a blantant disregard for good English. (and the author is a native speaker or at least fluent enough to write a story)
3) The Canon characters are doing things they normally wouldn't do. (I mean...Caspian putting on makeup? Gimme a break!)
4) The Canon characters are saying things they normally wouldn't say. ("omfg lyke totally babe u lite mi fiah" sez kaspyun. What in the name of Aslan?!)
5) There are often references to pop culture in a world set before the personal computer was invented.
And you guys can take it on from there. -

6.) It's labeled AU, but the changes to Canon are not consistent with each other.
7.) The scenario is just improbable.
8.) If only the names of the charachters are used, and nothing else in the setting(This can be forgiven if the fic's good on all other counts, you change the names, and relabel this as an original fic).
9.) It's being used to press a political agenda(this counts for both sides of the fence!). -

10) Adult men and women of varying stages of maturity are suddenly all behaving like twelve-year-old girls.
11) Couples prefer to hide away and angst to a ludicrous degree over every tiny little problem in the relationship rather than simply talking to each other.
12) Two characters insist that they are in love, but they never actually A) demonstrate why they love each other, B) say anything to each other that doesn't relate to how in love they supposedly are, C) do anything together other than make out and/or screw.

That smells like an intentional mockery of badfic, not serious badfic itself-many, if not most, of the badfics I've seen sporked do at least try to be well-written, even if most of them still suffer from horrible grammar problems and whatnot. All of the linked fics are so over-the-top horrible that I think they can't be anything but intentional.

A quick run-through of the Jane Austen section on The Pit yields horrible, horrible Mary-Sue, inclusing two Gary-Stu brothers who were invited to Lizzie and Darcy's wedding, or something.
I've saved a choice piece to practise MSTing on. It's Pride and Prejudice set in a modern High School. In Nevada. In it, Darcy is a wuss, every single female character (apart from Mary, because she's not TEH KEWLIES) could be replaced by generic!Sues, and Lizzie and Georgiana know each other from chapter two. Oh, and Wickham is a girl. We hates it, precious, we does...
